To give some idea of the huge potential for the Arctic Commons, this is a general size comparison of the Arctic Ocean area to Iraq.

Iraq is estimated to hold between 200 – 300 billion barrels of oil.

Within the Arctic Commons there could be two or more separate hydrocarbons prospective basins-regions, each the size of Iraq.
